The match takes place at the impressive North Queensland Stadium, also known as the Queensland Country Bank Stadium due to a sponsorship deal, which has been the home of the Cowboys since opening in 2020.
The stadium has a unique look and feel to it thanks to the wrap around, two-tier bowl design that runs down one side of the field, around the corners and across one end of the pitch.
That features two large tiers of general access seating where the upper tier is larger than the lower tier and so keeps fans close to the action.
It then wraps around to the other side of the field, but this large stand also has the grounds corporate and media facilites.
The final stand is a small, single tier that is at the far end of the ground but what really makes the stadium stand out is when you see it from above as the roof starts from outside of the bowl and close to the floor, to cover a walkway into the stadium, before lifting up and wrapping around the other sides of the stadium, although it does finish before the small single tier stand.
As well as hosting the Cowboys, the venue as become the de facto home of the Queensland women’s State of Origins side.
Location
The stadium is located in the Railway Estate suburb of the city of Townsville which is, as you would expect from the name of the club, in the north of the state of Queensland.
It is on the south end of Ross Island and bounded by the Ross Creek and the Ross River, which gives the venue a picturesque setting despite what the name of the suburb would have you believe.
The stadium is easily reached from the Townsville central business district and from major transport hubs in the city, which is ideal for a club such as the Cowboys who have fans based not only throughout the city but also from far and wide across the northern parts of the state.
