Stadium(s)
As a joint venture club built out of the merger between the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs, it is perhaps not too surprising that the club have two main home grounds, although it is perhaps a bit more surprising that they have a third home ground that they use for some bigger matches.
There first home ground is the Campbelltown Sports Stadium, which is a huge bowl of a stadium with few facilites other than somewhere to watch the match.
The ground features two stands, running down either touchline, with one simply been some seats with a roof and the other been home to some basic corporate facilities.
Behind both sticks, there is a small bank of seating but much of the space is a grass banked hill, which all comes together to allow for around 17,500 fans to watch live in attendance.
Wests’ second home match is Leichhardt Oval, which despite its name, it actually a rectangular stadium nowadays.
The stadium features a small amount of seating behind one set of sticks as well as a concrete terrace whilst the other end of the ground is just a small terrace.
One side of the pitch is home to the grounds main stand and basic corporate facilites whilst the other side of the pitch features a small bank of seats which has a large grass bank running behind it to allow for 20,00 to be in attendance.
Lastly, some big matches and potentially this Sydney derby, are moved to the nearby Western Sydney Stadium.
That is the impressive modern all-seater stadium that is home to the Tigers rivals, Parramatta, but that does offer a much larger capacity of around 30,000 and many more corporate facilities.
Location
Traditionally the club have been based in both the Balmain and Western Suburbs regions of Sydney going back to their days as the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies.
That based the club is the Inner West and Southwestern regions of Sydney and whilst they are still based in those parts, the link is a bit weaker nowadays.
The location of the match depends on where it will be played as the Campbelltown Sports stadium is located in the Leumeah suburb of South Western Sydney.
If the match is played at the historic Leichhardt Oval, it will be played in the Lilyfield suburb of the Inner West region of Sydney.
It is almost due west of the downtown Sydney area and to the southwest of Balmain.
Finally, if the game does take place at the Western Sydney Stadium, it will be the suburb of Parramatta that plays host to the action.
Parramatta is the leading suburb of Western Sydney in terms of been a commercial centre.
About
These two have plenty of similarities with both been made up of historic clubs from the New South Wales region leagues days, who had to merge rival clubs together just to survive and create a new history as a joint venture club.
