New South Wales is located to the north of Victoria and to the south of Queensland and is home to the world-famous city of Sydney, which is also the home of Rugby League in the state and the home of all New South Wales Blues matches in the State of Origin series.

They then represented the NSWRFL competition that was at that time the leading Northern Union competition in the southern hemisphere.

In 1908, they would play their first ever series against their great rivals, the Queensland Maroons, and in a sign of things to come for much of the next 100 years, they would win the series 3-0.

In 1910, they would face England for the first time, and they would go on to win that series, before facing New Zealand in a 1914 tour, which they would win 3 of 4 matches.

It took until 1922 for the Blues to lose there first every match against the Maroons.

In 1951, they faced a touring French side for the first time in a one-off match up that ended in a 14-14 draw.

In 1953, they hosted an American All-Star team for 2 matches that saw then win both games.

Over the next 30 years, they would continue to dominant interstate matches against Queensland, in part because a residency rule for the Maroons who would see their stars head to paly club matches in New South Wales and then not be able to represent their state.

That would change in the early 1980’s when the 3 match interstate series would see 1 match played under new rules, where a player could play for the state in which they made their senior debut, or their state of origin.

These experimental matches would see a huge increase in quality and more level matches, and the State of Origin series was born.

The first full series took place in 1982 and would see Queensland win the opening 3 series by 2 wins to 1 in each.

New South Wales would win 2-1 in 1985 for their first ever series victory and they would make history the next season when they became the first state to sweep the series.

Queensland would sweep both the 1988 and 89 series before New South Wales would win 3 straight series for the first time between 1992 and 1994.

The first ever State of Origin draw would take place in 1999, when each state won 1 match and 1 was drawn.

Between 2006 and 2013, the NSW Blues would lose8 straight series and despite winning in 2014, they would then lose the next 3.

Thankfully for fans of the Blues, they would then win 3 of the next 4 as the series become much more even.
