Stadium(s)
The match takes place at the impressive North Queensland Stadium, also known as the Queensland Country Bank Stadium due to sponsorship reasons, is a modern all-seater stadium that has a unique and stunning design to it.
The ground sits on the banks of the Ross Creek which for a different set up anyway, but the design of the stadium also has a flowing river feel to it as the roof of the stadium starts from the floor and away from the stands before lifting up and wrapping around the stands.
The ground has a bowl-like design but only around 3 sides of it although one end only features the lower level, with one side and one end been made up of two tiers of seating.
The other side of the stadium features the main stand in ground that is made up of three tiers and includes the sports corporate and media facilities.
Another interesting feature of the ground is that on the 2 sides are double tiered, there is a gap between the two levels that opens to the outside.
As well as hosting the home matches of the Cowboys, the ground has also been a popular choice for international test matches and interstate matches as it has become the de facto home of the Queensland’s women’s State of Origin side.
Location
The club are based in the city of Townsville, which as you would expect from the club’s name, is in the northern parts of the state of Queensland, which often makes the weather for matches played there much hotter and more humid than elsewhere in the league, and especially for somewhere such as Canberra.
The city is both the largest in North Queensland and Northern Australia and with the areas been so rugged and sparse for much of it, the fans of the club who attend game can often travel 100’s and 100’s of miles.
That often leads to the fans been amongst the most passionate which always adds to the atmosphere for games played there but can lead to a lack of away support in attendance.
The ground itself is based in the Railway Estate suburb of Townsville, which is within walking distance of Townsville CBD, or downtown area and has good links to the whole wider Townsville region via public transport.
That is good news for fans as the club attract fans from across the whole city and wider region as they are the top sporting club across the north of Queensland and the Northern Territory.
