Stadium(s)
The match will likely take place at the impressive Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand although the club do take some matches on the road to other cities across the country.
The ground can only be described as unique thanks to the fact that it was built in the quarried remnants of the Rarotonga or Mount Smart volcano and whilst there won’t be any eruptions form the volcano anymore, there are often plenty out there on the field.
That has left the ground with a unique look to it including a large, raised banking all around the ground, with the stadium itself sitting at the foot of it.
That means most fans walk down into the stadium, to take their seats in the main stands that run along the touchlines.
Both feature bright yellow seats, feature two tiers of general seating and also have some corporate and media facilites.
Behind one set of sticks is a temporary stand populated by some of the more vocal fans the Warrior Nation have whilst the other end of the pitch features a large grass banking that fans often find there way to for bigger games.
All in all , the ground can host around 25,000 fans when full and the chances are that the stands will be packed out for a match up such as this one.
The venue has proven to be a great one for the club and it has also hosted many international test matches, mostly featuring the New Zealand Kiwis or the Tongan national team including that incredible match between England and Tonga and the Rugby League World Cup.
Location
The club were first established as the Auckland Warriors and whilst they now represent the whole of the country and have fans across both islands, it is still their home city of Auckland that bulk of their crowds come from.
The ground itself is located in the Penrose suburb of Auckland, which is around 9km southeast of the city centre and whilst it is quite an industrial area, it isn’t far from the Mangere Inlet of the Manukau Harbour.
Since been formed in 1995, the then Auckland Warriors have led the way for professional Rugby League in the country.
About
This is one of the highlights of the round whenever it takes place as it is always a match up that has a sense of ‘big game’ about it despite it been in no way a derby game.
Despite that, the atmosphere is always hot, the action takes a step up in intensity and the stands are packed out.
