Stadium(s)
Although the Warriors do take some matches on the road to other parts of the country, the Warriors home ground is the impressive Mount Smart Stadium in the New Zealand capital city of Auckland.
Although known to most as Mount Smart, the stadium also has had a number of other sponsored names down the years including its current name of the Go Media Stadium but no matter what you call it, it is one of the most unique stadiums in the NRL, if not world sport.
That is because the stadium is actually built into the quarried remnants of the Rarotonga (Mount Smart) volcanic cone.
That, unsurprisingly, gives the stadium a unique look and feel to it including large banks of grass behind both sets of sticks
Down each touchline is a large stand with one been the ground main stand and been multi-tiered to take in the stadiums corporate facilites, whilst the other side is a large all-seater two-tiered stand that hosts the bulk of the home fans.
There is a temporary seated stand built over one grass bank, whilst fans simply sit on the grass for big matches at the other end.
As well as hosting the Warriors, the stadium also plays host to many international test matches including one featuring the host nation of New Zealand, but it has also become a defacto home ground for the Tongan international test side.
The stadium has also hosted many matches at the Rugby League World Cup when part hosted in New Zealand including that incredible semi-final between Tonga and England- a match that will live long in the memory for any fans lucky enough to be there in person or for anybody watching live on television.
Location
As mentioned, the Warriors are based in the capital city of Auckland with the ground been located in the Penrose suburb of the city.
That puts it around 10 kilometres from the centre of Auckland, close to the Mangere Inlet, an arm of the Manukau Harbour, and between the suburbs of Oranga and Mount Wellington.
About
The Warriors club attract fans not only from across the city but from across the country whilst the Tigers will also have plenty of fans in attendance due their strong links to New Zealand with plenty of Kiwi greats having plied their trade for the club both pre and post merger.
