Stadium(s)
In the 2025, the Panthers will call the impressive Parramatta Stadium home as their own but in 2026, their will return to their spiritual home at the foot of the blue mountains.
Penrith Stadium, which must have had the most renaming’s out of any NRL stadium including the likes of Pepper Stadium, Penrith Park and the Penrith Football Stadium, has always been a stadium that had a great atmosphere but was left behind by other grounds, including Parramatta’s.
The old incarnation of the stadium featured two grandstands down both sides of the pitch, one of which had the corporate and media facilites of the ground, whilst both ends were relatively open, aside from a small grass bank that did house some fans.
In many ways, the new stadium will retain that look and feel to it as it two will consist of two main grandstands, but these will be gigger, have more facilites, are stepper so keep fans closer to the action and will offer much more in the way of corporate facilites.
It will still retain the grass banking at both ends and all in all will be able to host around 25,000 fans when full, as it likely will be for a matchup such as this one, where there will also be a decent following from the away side.
As well as hosting the Panthers, the ground has hosted a number of international test matches, including games at the Rugby League World Cup when hosted in Australia.
Location
The Panthers, as you would expect are based in the city of Penrith, which h is in the Greater Western Sydney region and whilst it is around 30 miles from the downtown Sydney CBD, urban sprawl over the years has all but linked the two and Penrith is in many ways a suburb of Sydney.
Despite that, it retains a sense of independence and its own feel and that always adds to the occasion on match days when a team from the big city itself comes to town.
The ground itself is based just on the outside of the centre of Penrith and within walking distance of the main train station in the city which makes it easy for fans to get to and make sit a popular away day for those based in Sydney.
About
Although this one could be classed a derby, it is around 1 hour by road between the two stadiums and takes over 2 hours by public transport, so whilst it has the big game feel from two huge clubs playing in front of packed house, it isn’t really a derby.
