Stadium(s)
The Dragons were formed by merging the St George Dragons and the Illawarra Steelers and even to this very day, they continue to use both of the home grounds of these clubs as their own home grounds.
That means that this match could take place at one of two venues, the Wollongong Showground or the Kogorah Oval.
If it takes place at the Wollongong Showground, or WIN Stadium, it will allow for a little under 24,000 fans to watch live in attendance.
That stadium features one large grandstand that run the length of one side of the field and consists of two tiers of general access seating as well as some boxes for the bulk of the stadiums corporate facilites.
Behind one set of sticks in a single tier all-seater general access stand that also has some corporate facilites at the back of it whilst at the other end of the stadium, there is a larger two-tier all-seater stand that also wraps around one corner that is partially roofed and partially open to the elements.
The other side of the stadium is a traditional grass banking that remains popular with many fans, but it really depends on the weather as to how many head for it.
The next option is for the match to be played at the Jubilee Stadium, or the Kogarah Oval, which was the former home of the St George Dragons and as you would likely expect, it is oval in shape.
It has a wraparound bank of general access seating at one end, which meets up with the stadiums ‘main stand’ that does have a small roof on it.
The other side of the field is a small bank of seating with a grass hill behind it, whilst the final end of the ground is an open grass bank, with a few seats at the front.
All in all, that allows for around 20,000 fans to watch live in attendance in what is one of the more traditional stadiums in the NRL.
Location
If the match takes place at the Wollongong Showground, it will be the city of Wollongong that hosts the action.
Located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, the city is around 85 kilometres, or 53 miles if you prefer, to the south of the centre of Sydney.
The stadium itself sits just to the east of the centre of Wollongong and its main train station which not only makes it relatively easy for fans to get to the ground from Sydney and southern parts of NSW, but it also gives it the enviable position of been situated on the coast, with those in the top tier of the main stand having great views over the ocean.
If it takes place at the Kogarah Oval, it will be the Carlton suburb of Sydney that hosts the match up, which is around 15 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district.
It is part of the St George region of Sydney, with the stadium itself sitting centrally between the centres of Carlton and Kogarah and close to both a train station and the main A1 road.
About
These two have both a long-term rivalry from playing in the NSWRFL competitions before they both merged and that rivalry has extended into the newly formed clubs, based partly on that history and also on some of the big matches that they have been involved in since.
