Stadium(s)
The Dragons were formed in 1998 by a merger between the Illawarra Steelers and the St George Dragons and they have kept alive the two former stadiums of those clubs, so this match could be played at one of two venues.
There first stadium is the Wollongong Showground, known as WIN Stadium due to sponsorship reasons, that is located in the city of Wollongong in New South Wales.
This was the former home of the Steelers and is the main home of the joint venture that is now a mix match of modern stands and historic features.
At the southern end of the stadium is a single tier all-seater stand whilst at the norther end, there is a larger two tiered all-seater stand that also wraps around the corner at one side.
Running from where that stands ends is a grass bank that runs along one side of the field whilst the other side features the grounds ‘main stand’ that is multi-tiered and that houses the stadiums corporate facilities.
All in all, the ground can host just under 24,000 fans when full and as well as hosting matches for the Dragons, it has also hosted many representative matches including touring interstate games and also international test matches both for the Kangaroos and as a neutral venue for matches held at the Rugby League World Cup when hosted in the country.
The clubs second home is the Jubilee Stadium, also known as the Kogarah Oval, which is located in the Carlton suburb of Sydney.
This was the former home of the St George Dragons and as you may guess from its name, it is oval in shape which does keep plenty of fans away from the action.
The ground is also affected by much of the stadium not having a roof on it, with one end of the ground been an open small single tier of seats that wraps around the far side of the ground and continues around the other end of the pitch- although there is another bank of seating behind it at one end.
The main stand at the ground is the only part to have a roof on it and it is there that the corporate facilites for the ground are found to bring the capacity up to just over 20,000 fans.
Location
If the match is to take place at WIN Stadium, it will be located in Wollongong, a city in the Illawarra region of New South Wales to the south of the city of Sydney.
Located on the coast, fans get great views of the Pacific Ocean from the upper tier of the main stand but that does make it a bit tricky for fans to get to, with the Wollongong train station quite a walk away.
If the match takes place at the Kogarah Oval, it will be in the Sydney suburb of Carlton, which is around 15 kilometres to the south of the Sydney central business district.
Carlton is just to the east of Kogarah itself and to the north of Kogarah Bay but with a train line running between Carlton, Kogarah and the city, it is easy for fans to get to the match.
About
Although the joint venture club is relatively new, this is a match up with plenty of history to it, with the St George Dragons having been established in 1921.
With the Roosters been a foundation club, these two have history going back to the state competitions that preceded the national league formation.
